Measure and Grow Workshop

Unlock the power of SAFe metrics to drive business agility and deliver measurable value.

Most SAFe implementations measure activity. Velocity climbs, iterations complete, PIs deliver — but the harder question stays unanswered: is the organisation actually becoming more agile, and can you prove it to the people who funded the transformation?

This one-day workshop gives cross-functional teams, ARTs and portfolios a structured approach to measuring what matters. It covers SAFe's three measurement domains — Outcomes, Flow and Competency — giving participants the tools to design a metrics strategy that drives continuous improvement and connects to strategic goals at every level.

You'll leave with a customised metrics strategy and a balanced dashboard you can put to work straight away. The workshop runs for one day, on-site or virtually.

Facilitated by SAFe Fellows who are also SPCTs.

What are you going to measure?

Together the three domains give a complete picture — not just how fast you're going, but whether you're heading in the right direction and whether your organisation has the capability to sustain it.

  • Outcomes: Do our solutions meet the needs of our customers and the business?
  • Flow: How efficient is the organisation at delivering value to the customer?
  • Competency: How proficient is the organisation in the practices that enable business agility?
SAFe three measurement domains — Outcomes, Flow and Competency — supporting the Business Agility Value Stream

Outcomes

  • Optimise business agility through a deep understanding of SAFe's measurement model
  • Uncover improvement opportunities by identifying the key SAFe metrics
  • Drive continuous improvement with a customised SAFe metrics strategy

Overcome these challenges

  • We struggle to measure how our work drives business value
  • We lack clear metrics to guide continuous improvement
  • We struggle to align our metrics with strategic business goals
  • We lack a consistent approach to measuring business agility

Who should attend

The workshop is typically recommended by an SPCT or coach and funded by a transformation sponsor, LACE lead, or portfolio/VMO leader who needs to demonstrate that the SAFe investment is delivering. In the room, it works best with a mix of:

  • Agile team members and leaders seeking to measure and optimise agility
  • Leaders with the authority to align SAFe metrics with business strategy and drive improvement
  • Stakeholders involved in a SAFe implementation

What you'll explore and achieve

In the first half, you'll explore the three measurement domains — Outcomes, Flow and Competency — and learn how KPIs and OKRs define measurable outcomes that align with organisational goals.

The second half is practical application: assess competency, select flow metrics for teams, ARTs and portfolios, and identify the key metrics that sharpen decision-making. You leave with a balanced, strategy-aligned set of metrics you can put to work straight away.

Frequently asked questions

It's a one-day workshop that helps teams, ARTs and portfolios use SAFe's measurement model to track and improve their ability to deliver value. You learn to identify the right metrics across three domains and build a metrics strategy and balanced dashboard aligned with your business goals.

Outcomes (are our solutions meeting customer and business needs?), Flow (how efficiently do we deliver value?), and Competency (how proficient are we in the practices that enable business agility?). Together they give a balanced view rather than relying on a single metric.

Yes, it runs on-site or virtually.

KPIs are the indicators you track to see how you're performing. OKRs link those measures to specific objectives and the results that define success. The workshop shows how to use both to define measurable outcomes that align with organisational goals.

A customised SAFe metrics strategy, a balanced dashboard tied to strategic objectives, and a clear set of improvement opportunities to act on.

Measure and Grow builds your overall metrics strategy across all three domains. The AI-Empowered SAFe Assessments Workshop focuses specifically on running SAFe's formal assessments using the Comparative Agility platform and SAFe CoPilot AI. They complement each other: strategy here, assessment execution there.

Measuring the Business Benefits focuses on connecting your transformation to executive-level business outcomes through a transformation OKR. Measure and Grow is the broader, ongoing measurement practice. Many organisations use the business benefits workshop to set direction, then Measure and Grow to track progress.

A retrospective is a team-level reflection on recent work — what went well, what to improve, what to try next. Measure and Grow is a structured measurement strategy workshop that covers three domains across the full organisation, from teams to portfolios. The output isn't a list of action items for next iteration — it's a metrics strategy and a balanced dashboard tied to strategic objectives. Different scope, different audience, different output.
