Leading SAFe for Government with SAFe Agilist (SA) certification

Leading SAFe for Government with SAFe Agilist (SA) certification

Become a SAFe Agilist and lead Lean-Agile transformation within government and public sector organisations.

Government organisations operate under accountability structures, procurement frameworks, and funding cycles that shape how change gets done. Leading SAFe for Government is the AI-Empowered SAFe version of Leading SAFe, adapted for public sector delivery contexts. It covers the foundational knowledge for leading a Lean-Agile organisation — aligning portfolios and teams around clear outcomes, improving flow across complex organisational structures, and applying AI responsibly to strengthen leadership decision-making.

The course content is the same as Leading SAFe. What differs is the context in the room. Pretty Agile's trainers bring direct experience working with Australian and New Zealand government organisations, which means the conversations, examples, and questions that arise in delivery reflect how SAFe actually applies in a public sector environment.

This course is available as a public class through our Leading SAFe schedule, or as a private delivery for your organisation.

Delivered by SAFe Fellows who are also SPCTs and Certified AI-Native Trainers.

What Our Clients Say

Piyumali Perera Change and Capability Director, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, NZ

It's been great to have had the time to complete a course and obtain my certification as a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) Program Consultant. A huge thanks to Em Campbell-Pretty and Adrienne Wilson from Pretty Agile for running such a well structured and engaging course across multiple time zones!

Matthias Prilipp Product Manager - New Technologies, Porsche Cars Australia Pty.Ltd.

The Agile Product Management certification has been a great introduction to the Scaled Agile Framework. Em and Adrienne cover all important areas of modern agile product management and have given me the tools to apply the principles of the framework to my day-to-day business. I did enjoy the online format as it gave me more flexibility and allowed us to discuss the framework in an international context with participants from overseas. The team from Pretty Agile made this a seamless experience and I’m looking forward to my next course.

Judith van der Linden Agile Program Change Manager, Chevron

I thoroughly enjoyed your ‘Implementing SAFe’ class in July. I have to admit, I was a bit worried about what the virtual experience would be like but you have it down to an art (pun intended :). The four days flew by, thanks to the mix of engaging facilitators, well timed breaks and seamless technology. I hope virtual options remain a permanent offering for training providers as it opens up more opportunities, especially if for those not based on the East Coast. Keep up the great work

Natalie Cryan Director UoA Online

I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank you for your expert facilitation and training during the Leading SAFe sessions last week. I'm always amazed by how seamlessly you handle the time-zone challenge and how you maintain such energy and stamina across two incredibly long and intensive days. It makes such a difference to the learning experience, and I really appreciated it.

Jeffrey Davidson Founder, Leading Great Teams, LLC

With experience in agile, scrum, SAFe, and training I didn't want to take any class. I wanted to take training from someone who understands how to share information, engage the (virtual) classroom, and use their experience to get beyond the wordy slides and talk about real-world implementations. And the person I wanted training from more than anyone else is Em Campbell-Pretty. She and Adrienne did a marvellous job and kept me engaged despite the 9-hour time difference. Yes, my class started at 5:30PM local and ran until 2:30AM. And it was worth it!

Len Walter Chief Technology Officer/CTO/CIO from startup to ASX300

Really enjoyed the Implementing SAFe course from the guys at Pretty Agile. If anyone's hesitant to invest in training while it's all happening over Zoom, I say - don't! With the right approach and tools, the four days flew by. SAFe 5 has gone beyond large-scale product development into the mindset and culture to increase whole-of-business agility. I wonder if we're seeing the early results of that in the rapid business transformation in response to COVID at telcos and banks, frequent adopters of SAFe.

Why train with Pretty Agile?

Leading SAFe and leading a Lean-Agile transformation inside a government organisation are not the same thing.

Pretty Agile's trainers have worked with Australian federal, state, and territory government organisations since 2014. That experience surfaces in delivery — in the questions that get answered, the constraints that get acknowledged, and the examples that reflect how public sector transformation actually unfolds.

  • Delivered by SAFe Fellows who are also SPCTs and Certified AI-Native Trainers.
  • Australia's most experienced Scaled Agile Partner.
  • Trained 14,000+ people in SAFe since 2014.
  • 95%+ public course run rate.
  • 100% Australian owned and operated.
  • Scaled Agile Platinum SPCT Partner and AI-Native Charter Partner for Australia and New Zealand.

Who Should Attend

Leading SAFe for Government is designed for leaders and managers working within government organisations, public sector bodies, and the contractors and partners who support them.

Typical participants include:

  • Government executives and senior leaders
  • Program and project managers
  • Portfolio managers and strategy leads
  • IT directors and technology leaders
  • Change management professionals
  • Procurement specialists
  • Government contractors and delivery partners

No prior SAFe experience is required. Some familiarity with Agile principles is useful but not a prerequisite.

What You'll Gain

After the course, you'll be able to:

  • Lead a Lean-Agile transformation within the structural constraints of a government or public sector organisation.
  • Align portfolios, programs, and teams around clear outcomes using SAFe planning and portfolio practices.
  • Apply SAFe principles to public sector realities, including funding cycles, procurement constraints, and cross-organisational dependencies.
  • Structure cross-functional teams to improve flow and reduce reliance on functional silos.
  • Use AI prompting techniques to support leadership decision-making and streamline reporting workflows.

Course Overview

Leading SAFe for Government covers the same six lessons as AI-Empowered SAFe Leading SAFe:

  • Adapting and Thriving with SAFe
  • Building a Foundation with Mindset, Values, and Principles
  • Team and Technical Agility
  • Product Development Flow
  • Lean Portfolio Management
  • Leading the Change

Leading SAFe for Government is an AI-Empowered SAFe course designed for leaders and managers working in government and public sector organisations. It covers the same curriculum as Leading SAFe — the same six lessons, the same SAFe Agilist (SA) certification, and the same AI-empowered content. The course materials are developed by Scaled Agile and are consistent across all authorised training partners.

What the government variant reflects is context. The course frames SAFe concepts for public sector delivery environments — including how value streams, funding, and decision-making work differently in government. Pretty Agile's trainers bring additional ANZ government implementation experience into the room, drawing on work with Australian federal, state, and territory organisations.

If you are looking for a public class, our Leading SAFe schedule runs regularly across Australia. If you want to bring this course to your organisation as a private delivery, contact us to discuss options.

The curriculum is the same. Both courses cover the same six lessons, lead to the SAFe Agilist (SA) certification, and include the same AI-empowered content developed by Scaled Agile.

Leading SAFe for Government frames that content for public sector delivery contexts — how value streams, funding, and decision-making work in government organisations rather than commercial ones. For most Australian and New Zealand government participants, the practical differences in the room come from the trainer's experience rather than the courseware itself.

If you are unsure which is right for your team, contact us and we can help you decide.

Participants who attend both days are eligible to sit the SAFe Agilist (SA) certification exam.

The course fee includes two exam attempts. Certification is maintained annually through Scaled Agile.

No mandatory prerequisites. The following are recommended:

  • A foundational understanding of Agile principles
  • Experience working in a government or public sector environment

Attendees may be eligible to apply for 15 PDUs toward PMI continuing education requirements (PMP, PgMP, PMI-ACP).

Attendees may also be eligible to apply for SEUs under category C toward earning or renewing a CSP through Scrum Alliance.
